+Pavilion

Main Entrance and Info Center

Bangkok Design Week 2025
Design Up+Rising : ออกแบบพร้อมบวก+

8-16 February, TCDC Bangkok
Grand Postal Building

+Pavilion explores intersections between horizontal and vertical lines in 2-D configuration, 3D spaces and in-between spaces around. From a point where vertical and horizontal lines intersect to form a +, the pavilion expands in 3-dimensional axis, creating spaces where boundaries are endless and possibilities are infinite. Like a plus itself, it keeps adding, then multiplying, then exponentiate, into infinity.

As an entrance, the ground floor is designed to lead people from various directions to various activities around while creating the main entrance axis into TCDC building. The 4 columns are wrapped with infographic and corrugated zinc, expanding in 45-degree angle to form a conceptual + shape which the center is left blank for flowing circulations with minimum obstruction.

While the ground floor is a functional level of circulation and infographic, the upper floor is a symbolic layer of an inverted + sign. Its configuration forms a + sign which can be seen from every distance and every direction, including ceiling plan, roof plan and the 4 elevations. The structures are completely identical in every parallel projection.

The translucent fabric which forms the flesh of the pavilion is placed vertically into the structure’s cavity in 45-degree, creating another axis of a + which rotates as an x. This fabric layer creates a translucent figure/ground effect with the + sign void, a visual impact, while acting as a screen for lighting effects at night and natural lighting during daytime. Its 45-degree configuration also creates echoing shadows of the structural frame which is ever-changing during the day.
