Karjvit Rirermvanich

Born on February 2nd, 1984 in Bangkok, Thailand.

Karjvit is a son of a contractor and a grandson of a mechanic. He obtained his bachelor degree in Architecture with honour from Chulalongkorn

University ,Bangkok in 2007. His passion in architectural design is straightforward, he believes that construction and design is inseparable and creativity always resides somewhere in between the two. He continued to explore this particular interest at the Design and Make Programme (AAD&M) of the AA School of Architecture, London, from which he graduated in early 2013. At the AAD&M, he developed his skills and insights

as an architect-maker through full-scale design and construction of 3 experimental timber buildings as well as understandings in contemporary architectural theory, mainly on makings and fabrications.

Prior to establishing Physicalist, Karjvit worked for 3 years at Architects 49 Limited (A49) , Bangkok, Thailand. During these dedicated years, he also found some time to test his ideas by submitting design proposals to the annual experimental design competition held by the Association of Siamese Architects(ASA) in which he unprecedentedly won prizes for 3 years in a row from 2008 - 2010. In the 2010 competition, he was later selected to represent his country at the first Thai pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale as the head of film and animation team of the exhibition.

Later in 2013, He was granted the annual Tadao Ando’s scholarship. During this 1-month long cultural exchange programme, he worked as an architect at Obayashi Corporation, Osaka, where he experienced the Japanese working mentality and teamwork while also absorbing the deeply-rooted Japanese aesthetics which he has always been in love with.

During 2013 - 2015, he also worked as chief project architect at his family’s construction company, Sittanant co.,ltd. Through supervising and hands-on working in the construction of several high-profile projects ranging from luxury houses to mid-scale offices and community malls, he developed deep understandings in essential fields which are structural engineering, mechanical engineering, construction budget management, project management and most importantly, construction itself.

Academically, He was a studio tutor of the Advanced Architectural Design programme at the Department of Architecture, Chulalongkorn University from 2013 -2016 and the Basic Design Programme at the University of Thailand Chamber of Commerce (UTCC) from 2008-2010. He has been invited as an academic speaker and a studio critique in different occasions since 2009 at leading architectural schools across Bangkok including Chulalongkorn University, Silpakorn University, Rangsit University and Sripathum University.

Karjvit is also currently the editor of art4d magazine; a 25-year-old leading architecture design & arts magazine in Thailand where he regularly wrote for since the early days of his career. He was also in an editorial team of ASA Journal from 2007-2009.

Apart from architecture, He is also a guitarist of an indie-rock band “morningsurfers” which released 2 albums back in 2002 and 2005 and recently came back to perform live shows since 2016.

Despite his frequent escape, Karjvit currently lives and works in Bangkok where he was born and raised.
